John Browne (1642–1702) was an English anatomist, surgeon and author. He published the first description of cirrhosis of the liver in 1685 and the first description of necrotising pancreatitis in 1668.
This was his most popular work, going through more than 10 English and Continental editions and translated also into German and Latin. It is widely known as 'Myographia nova', the title given to the Latin edition of 1684 and to all subsequent Latin and English editions.
